Families in Need

Our credit union has been actively involved in trying to find ways to help folks weather the financial crisis. Through our Building Hope foreclosure prevention seminars to our Rogue Solutions member loan counseling program we are simply trying to be a trusted resource that folks can turn to. With that in mind when the opportunity to partner with KTVL Channel 10 on their Families In Need campaign was offered, we quickly signed on.

Everyday our staff members hear incredible stories from our members about the seemingly insurmountable financial odds that they are facing. We hear stories from folks that had 30 years of perfect credit history prior to the recession. Now, they are about to lose their home. We also hear the stories of unforeseen hardship due to medical issues or a host of other reasons.

I am proud of our credit union Board, volunteers, and staff because it would have been easy to focus only on the challenges that we are facing as a financial institution in this time of economic difficulty. However, they are all focused on what we can do to lend a helping hand… The Families In Need campaign is a perfect fit for us at Rogue Federal Credit Union and I hope you will join us and KTVL in being a beacon of hope during these difficult times.

The program is simple. This week, KTVL will launch Families In Need as a regular segment during NEWS10 Monday thru Friday at 6am and 6pm. Families In Need will profile everyday people who need a helping hand. Viewers will be asked to nominate families at ktvl.com
or send in a letter to the station. At the end of November viewers will vote to decide which family will receive a $1,000 Visa gift card provided by Rogue Federal Credit Union. In addition, Rogue Federal Credit Union will put out collection jars in each branch and allow members and employees to donate their change into a general fund. KTVL will then present the collected amount to a second family that KTVL will choose from the submissions. It is my hope that if we all join together we will be able to help several more families.

Please join with us and help out if you can. If you can’t help out, but know of a family who could use the help (including your family) then go to our website at
http://www.roguefcu.org/ to nominate a family for the Families In Need campaign. Just follow the links to KTVL’s website for information on how to nominate a Families In Need.

In difficult times, the communities that survive and then thrive are those communities that join together to help everyone through. This is our chance to prove that Southern Oregon is a community that cares!!

  1. Way to go, RFCU board and staff! This is another example of why I am proud to be a member. Imagine if other local organizations established similar programs to help more people in our community. Thanks for helping lead the way! Let's hope there are some "copycat" do-gooders out there. Thanks, too, to Kingsley and all the folks at KTVL for this partnership.
